Daikin A-codes — Indoor unit fault family (A3 drain, A6 fan…)
Applies to: Daikin mini-split systems
What this error means
A-prefixed codes are indoor-unit faults. The one offices hit most is A3 — the drain water level system: a clogged condensate line or failed drain pump has triggered the float switch to prevent an overflow onto ceilings and desks. A6 is the indoor fan motor.
Symptoms
- A-code on controller
- Unit stops with water near/in the indoor unit (A3)
- Weak or no indoor airflow (A6)
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- For A3: check the drain pan and line; a wet/dry vacuum on the drain outlet often clears the clog; don't keep running the unit with a full pan
- Clean filters (airflow faults)
- Power cycle at the breaker for 3–5 minutes
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
When to call a technician
Drain pump replacement or fan motor work — technician job, but cheap relative to a ceiling flood.
