Goodman/Amana furnace flash codes, decoded
The red-LED language on Goodman and Amana furnace boards (shared platform): steady ON = normal standby, slow flash = normal heating. Faults: 1 flash = ignition failure lockout (auto-retries after ~1 hour; the classic cause is a dirty flame sensor), 2 = pressure switch stuck closed, 3 = pressure switch stuck open (blocked vent, failed inducer, condensate clog), 4 = open high limit (airflow — the filter), 5 = flame sensed with gas off (SAFETY — stop), 6 = rollout switch open (SAFETY — stop), 7 = weak flame signal, 8 = igniter circuit fault. Continuous rapid flashing = reversed line polarity/grounding — an electrician fix.
Goodman 3 flashes — Pressure switch stuck open
The draft pressure switch won't close: the furnace can't prove its venting is safe. Blocked exhaust or intake pipes (winter classics: snow, ice, nests), a failing inducer motor, kinked switch tubing, or a condensate clog on high-efficiency models.
