DIY fix — no technician neededVerified by FixOffice
Honeywell 'Wait' message
Applies to: Honeywell Home T-series (T4/T6/T9) and similar
What this error means
'Wait' on Honeywell Home thermostats is the same compressor-protection hold — the thermostat pauses the system briefly (up to ~5 minutes) to protect the compressor, usually after a settings change or power interruption.
Symptoms
- 'Wait' on the display
- System not responding to a new setpoint immediately
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- Wait up to 5 minutes; the message clears itself
- If 'Wait' persists beyond ~10 minutes, treat it as a power problem: batteries, breaker, float switch, then power cycle
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
When to call a technician
Persistent 'Wait' with power confirmed — wiring/transformer check.
