'No Signal' with the meeting starting — Epson's official checklist
Applies to: Epson projectors; the checklist applies to any brand
What this error means
Epson's documented order, which doubles as the universal projector triage: press Source Search and wait; confirm the laptop/source is actually on; reseat both cable ends (with HDMI, a shorter cable is an official suggestion); bypass any adapters, docks, and switchers by connecting direct; and the one that solves most laptop cases — Windows key + P, choose Duplicate (that exact keystroke is in Epson's docs). Mac equivalent: Displays → mirror.
Symptoms
- Blue screen / 'No Signal'
- Laptop shows the slides, room screen doesn't
- Worked yesterday, dead today (usually the dock)
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- Windows key + P → Duplicate. Solves the majority instantly
- Press the projector's Source Search button and give it a few seconds
- Reseat the HDMI at both ends; bypass docks/adapters and connect direct to test
- Power cycle projector AND laptop if the port seems dead
- Keep a known-good HDMI cable taped inside the podium (institutional wisdom)
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
When to call a technician
Only if a direct connection with a known-good cable and correct source still fails — then the port or mainboard needs service.
