Lennox E201 — Indoor blower communication failure

Applies to: Lennox E-code era furnaces (EL/SL series)

What this error means

The control board lost communication with the blower motor — power loss to the motor or loose wiring between board and blower. No airflow means no safe heat, so the furnace stops.

Symptoms

  • No blower operation
  • E201 displayed
  • May follow work on the furnace or a power event

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

  1. Power off 30 seconds and restore — communication faults are occasionally transient
  2. Check that the blower compartment door is fully seated (it interrupts power when ajar)

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.

When to call a technician

If it persists — blower motor or harness diagnosis; variable-speed blower motors are one of the pricier furnace repairs ($400–$1,500 installed depending on motor type).
