Brother 'Unable to Print/Init/Clean 4F' — Print head fault

What this error means

The logic board detected a print head electrical fault — the same 4F whether it says Init, Print, or Clean (the prefix just names what was running when it tripped). Debris under the head, a dirty encoder strip, or genuine head failure. On inexpensive models a persistent 4F is usually the machine's retirement notice.

Symptoms

• 4F with any prefix
• Returns immediately at every power-on (bad sign)

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Open the scanner cover; remove any debris/jam fragments near the print head path
2. Wipe the encoder strip (the thin clear strip behind the carriage) with a DRY lint-free cloth
3. Unplug 2 minutes, retry

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
