HP 59.x — Main motor error
Applies to: LaserJet series
What this error means
The main drive motor failed to start or stay at speed — often a gear-train obstruction (jammed paper fragment, seized toner cartridge drive) rather than the motor itself.
Symptoms
- Grinding at startup
- Error the moment a print job engages
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- Open all doors, remove the toner cartridge(s), and check for torn paper deep in the path
- Reseat cartridges — a seized cartridge drum can present as a motor error (try a known-good cartridge if available)
- Power cycle
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
When to call a technician
If a fresh cartridge and clear path don't fix it — drive/motor replacement.
