Sharp L4-xx — Motor lock trouble family

What this error means

A motor stalled or failed to reach speed. L4-01 is specifically the main motor; other L4 subcodes cover feed, drum, fusing, and developer motors and cooling fans. Causes range from a drive-train obstruction to a failing motor. These latch and are cleared by a technician in simulation mode after the cause is fixed.

Symptoms

• Grinding then stop
• Error as a job starts

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Clear all paper path areas including deep fragments
2. Reseat toner/drum units
3. Power cycle

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
