Sharp error codes, explained
MX and AR series copiers. Codes below: Letter-number codes (H5-01, U2-xx…). Each guide covers what the code means, what you can safely try yourself, when to stop and call a technician, and what the repair typically costs.
Sharp H5-01 — Repeated fusing-area jam lockout
The machine detected multiple consecutive jams at the fusing area and locked itself out as a safety measure. Famous for persisting after the actual jam is cleared — it requires a reset, not just jam removal.
Sharp H3-xx / H4-xx — Fusing temperature fault family
High-temperature (H3) and low/abnormal-temperature (H4) faults in the fusing unit. Standard fuser-class fault: lockout, likely latching.
Sharp U2-xx — Memory/EEPROM error family
The machine's stored settings/counter memory failed a consistency check — after a power surge, battery issue, or board fault.
Sharp L4-xx — Motor lock trouble family
A motor stalled or failed to reach speed. L4-01 is specifically the main motor; other L4 subcodes cover feed, drum, fusing, and developer motors and cooling fans. Causes range from a drive-train obstruction to a failing motor. These latch and are cleared by a technician in simulation mode after the cause is fixed.
