DIY fix — no technician neededVerified by FixOffice
Keurig brewing short cups or barely dripping
Applies to: Keurig K-series brewers
What this error means
Keurig's own troubleshooting points at three culprits: a clogged exit needle (coffee grounds), a dirty pod holder, or scale. The official fix is charmingly low-tech: a straightened paperclip into the exit needle and each entrance-needle hole, then two water-only brews.
Symptoms
- Half-full cups
- Grounds in the cup
- Sputtering, weak stream
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- Unplug; open the handle and remove the pod holder
- Straightened paperclip into the exit needle (under the pod holder) and the entrance needle holes — wiggle to loosen grounds; mind the sharp needles
- Rinse the pod holder, reassemble, run 2 water-only brews
- K-Supreme family bonus: hold Brew + 12oz for 5 seconds to run a purge
- Still short? Descale (see our descale guide)
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
When to call a technician
Not economically — needle cleaning and descaling fix nearly all cases on consumer units.
