HP 30.03.xx — MFP scanner failure

What this error means

The flatbed scanner failed — on Enterprise MFPs commonly the internal lamp or scanner control board, and on several models (M525/M575 famously) a firmware update is the documented first fix. Printing usually still works while the scanner is down.

Symptoms

• Scan/copy dead, printing fine
• Error at scanner init

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Power cycle
2. Update firmware — documented fix for several models' 30.03.45
3. Recurring: scanner assembly service

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.

When to call a technician

Lamp/board replacement — the lamp isn't sold separately on most models, so it's an assembly swap.
