HP 41.3 — Unexpected paper size

What this error means

The paper the printer picked doesn't match the size the job or tray expects — usually a tray guide or tray-size setting mismatch, or sheets sticking together.

Symptoms

• Error mid-job
• Prompt to load a size that's already loaded

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Adjust the tray guides so they touch the stack snugly
2. On the control panel, set the tray's size/type to match what's actually loaded (watch for Letter vs A4)
3. Fan the paper stack and reload

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.

When to call a technician

If it persists with correct settings — a tray sensor fault.
