Toshiba C440/C450 — Fuser errors (and why a power cycle won't clear them)

What this error means

The fuser family: temperature out of range (C440) or thermistor fault during printing (C450), with siblings C443/C445/C449 marking when it failed. Like every brand's fuser errors these exist for fire safety — and Toshiba's LATCH: a plain power cycle will not clear them. After the repair, a technician clears the stored error via the 08-400 procedure. Don't chase reset instructions to skip the repair; the lockout is the safety.

Symptoms

• Machine dead with 'Call for Service'
• Code C44x/C45x via the 8+Clear/Stop check

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Power cycle ONCE (some non-latched conditions clear)
2. If the code persists — it's latched; book service and report the code

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
