Xerox 116-xxx — System/software error family

Applies to: WorkCentre / VersaLink / AltaLink

What this error means

A family of controller and software faults (e.g., 116-324 'Exception Failure' — a fatal software exception, often triggered by a corrupt print job). Most respond to a full power cycle; recurring instances usually need a firmware/software reload. One caveat: the 116-330/331/336/337/339 subcodes are hard-disk file-system failures, which are a service matter rather than a software hiccup.

Symptoms

  • Machine reboots or freezes with a 116- code
  • Often follows firmware or network changes

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

  1. Full power-off (main switch), 2 minutes, power on
  2. Record the full code (e.g., 116-324) — the subcode matters for support
  3. Check for firmware updates via the device web admin or your dealer

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
