Panasonic's hidden self-diagnosis — the remote CHECK button

Applies to: Panasonic mini-splits with wireless remotes

What this error means

The best DIY diagnostic in mini-splits, straight from Panasonic: point the wireless remote at the unit, press the recessed CHECK button (~5 seconds, use a pin) until the display shows '--', then step through codes with the TIMER arrows. When the displayed code matches the stored fault, the indoor unit answers with a LONG BEEP. That beep is your diagnosis. Exit by holding CHECK ~25 seconds.

Symptoms

  • Unit blinking/stopped and you don't know why
  • Before calling for service (arrive informed)

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

  1. Point the remote at the unit; press the recessed CHECK button ~5s until '--' shows
  2. Press TIMER ▲ repeatedly; at each code the unit beeps short — until the stored fault code gets the long beep
  3. Write that code down and look it up in our Panasonic guide
  4. Hold CHECK ~25s to exit

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.

When to call a technician

The diagnosis is DIY; most Panasonic fault repairs are technician work (Panasonic says so themselves).
