Xerox 071/072/073/074-101 — Tray misfeed jams

What this error means

Paper from the numbered tray (071 = tray 1, 072 = tray 2…) never reached the registration sensor. Worn or dirty feed rollers, overfilled trays, and humid paper are the documented culprits.

Symptoms

• Repeated jams from one specific tray
• Multiple sheets feeding at once

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Clear the jam; remove the tray and check the path behind it
2. Fan the stack, flip it, load below max, snug the guides
3. Wipe the tray's feed rollers
4. Fresh dry paper — humidity is the silent cause

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
