Epson 'Maintenance Box at end of service life' — the GOOD waste-ink message

What this error means

Unlike the dreaded internal ink-pad lockout, the maintenance box is an official user-replaceable cartridge that catches cleaning-cycle ink. Buy the box for your model (T04D1, C9345 and similar part codes), slide the old one out, new one in — the printer detects it automatically. If your Epson has a maintenance box, it generally does NOT have the dead-end ink-pad problem.

Symptoms

• Maintenance box message on EcoTank/WorkForce Pro
• Distinct from 'ink pad end of service life' (different, worse message)

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Identify your model's maintenance box part code (manual or Epson's site)
2. Order it ($15–35 typical)
3. Power on, open the maintenance box cover (often rear or side), swap the box, close

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
