Epson 0x97 — Internal hardware fatal error (WorkForce)
A fatal internal hardware fault, notorious on several WorkForce models — commonly attributed to motherboard failure, sometimes preceded by nothing at all.

Epson 'Ink pad is at the end of its service life'
The waste-ink pad counter reached its limit. Like Brother's error 46, this is a counter-driven lockout protecting against internal ink overflow — the machine may be physically fine.

A general fatal error during initialization — commonly a carriage obstruction (packing material, jammed fragment) or hardware fault.
