Ricoh SC541 — Fusing thermistor abnormal
Applies to: Aficio / MP / IM series (and Savin, Lanier equivalents)
What this error means
The fusing unit's temperature sensor read open/abnormal. The machine locks out; on most Ricoh models SC5xx fusing errors latch and need a reset sequence after the fault is addressed.
Symptoms
- Error at warm-up
- Returns immediately after restart
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- Power off at the main switch, wait 60 seconds, power on
- Reseat the fusing unit if your model allows user access
- Do not repeatedly reset against a recurring SC541
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.

On recurrence — thermistor or fusing unit replacement plus service reset.
