Ricoh SC551–SC555 — Pressure-roller fusing errors
Applies to: Aficio / MP / IM series (and Savin, Lanier equivalents)
What this error means
The second fusing thermistor group — pressure-roller side, mirroring the famous SC541–546 hot-roller family: open thermistor (551), warm-up failure (552), overheat (553), low temperature (554), instability (555). Like all Ricoh fusing errors they LATCH: they survive power cycles and need a technician's SP-mode reset after repair.
Symptoms
- Stops at warm-up or mid-job
- Returns after every restart
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- One careful power cycle (2 minutes off) only
- Reseat the fusing unit if your model allows user access
- Do not repeatedly reset fusing errors
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
