Canon E001 — Fuser overheating detected

What this error means

The fixing unit temperature rose above its safe limit. This is a protective shutdown — the usual causes are a failing thermistor giving bad readings or a fault in the heater control circuit.

Symptoms

• Machine shuts down mid-job or during warm-up
• Burning smell in some cases
• Error latches and returns after restart

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Power off and let the machine cool for 15–20 minutes
2. Power back on once; if E001 returns, leave it off

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.

When to call a technician

Immediately if it recurs — overheat faults are the one class of copier error you should not keep resetting.
