Canon E100 — Laser/BD (beam detect) error

What this error means

The laser scanner unit failed its beam-detect check, so the machine can't form images safely. Usually the polygon motor or laser unit.

Symptoms

• Error during warm-up or at first print
• May follow a period of high-pitched whine from the laser unit

Try this first (safe DIY steps)

1. Power cycle once after 60 seconds — transient BD errors do occasionally clear

Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.

When to call a technician

If it returns — laser scanner assemblies must be replaced as a unit and require service-mode work.
