Canon E540 — Finisher tray lift error
Applies to: imageRUNNER / imageRUNNER ADVANCE series
What this error means
The finisher's output tray couldn't find its home position — and the classic cause is delightfully mundane: something is under or around the tray (a forgotten paper stack, a stapler, someone's lunch), or the tray is overloaded.
Symptoms
- Error during big print runs
- Finisher tray visibly stuck or overloaded
Try this first (safe DIY steps)
- Remove ALL paper and objects on, under, and around the finisher output tray
- Power cycle
- Watch the tray run its startup travel — obstruction will be obvious
Safety: power off before any physical intervention. Never bypass covers or interlocks — fuser areas run hot enough to burn.
When to call a technician
If the tray still won't home with a clear path — lift motor/sensor service.
